9/19/2001: AMD Athlon XP with "Equivalent GHz", in October?
As inform them almost always well informed boys of The Register, the next microprocessor of dessert of AMD might call itself not Athlon 4 Athlon XP, and as it seemed until now. This new mike of AMD takes the nucleus Young pigeon and the same sources point about October 12 for his throwing on the market.
But it seems that this would not be the only change. For the first time, the name and the speed of the processor Athlon might not coincide. For example, the model would be named to "1,333 GHz Athlon XP 1500 +"; that of 1,4 GHz "Athlon XP 1600 +", that of 1,467 GHz "Athlon XP 1700 +", that of 1,5 GHz "Athlon XP 1800 +" and that of 1,6 GHz "Athlon XP 1900 +".
The first one of the changes is a change purely of image, since it alludes to the future operating system of Microsoft "Windows XP" that will see the light on October 27. On the other hand, to differentiate the model and the speed of the mike, makes us think that it is a "subtle" way of indicating that his minor speed in GHz is not any obstacle to compete with the family Intel Pentium 4.
This way, the Athlon XP to 1,6 GHz would be the model "1900 +" because his yield would be equivalent or even would overcome Intel Pentium 4 1,9 GHz, which in most cases is absolutely true. Because to make good mikes cannot be sufficient, when Intel has put in the head to the whole world the wrong idea of that "more GHz = more yield, and point".
