2/15/2001: The memory low SDRAM up to ridiculous prices
The big stocks accumulated by the manufacturers of memory during the last months have provoked that the price of the chips of SDRAM lowers even less than half of what they were costing one year ago, being located in approximately 5 $ every chip PC133 of 128 Mbits (8 of which form a module of 128 MBytes).
It is strong and continued descent is provoking that they could find modules PC133 of 64 MBytes for less than 25 $, and of 128 MBytes for approximately 40 $. Even modules of mark of exceptional quality, like them Crucial, the Corsair or the Mushkin capable of working in way CAS2, are for approximately 40 $ (64 MB) and 65 $ (128 MB).
Before this circumstance, the PCs manufacturers begin including like standard in the teams of scale average - fall 128 MB of SDRAM. One must emphasize that the yield and the stability of Windows improve perceptibly on having increased the memory quantity in teams with 64 MB or less, a little especially emphasized in Windows 2000, where it turns out to be absolutely essential to have a 128 MB minimum for a correct functioning.
For his part, the price of the memoirs DDR and RDRAM continues much over that of the SDRAM (respectively, from 3 to 4 times and from 4 to 5 times more expensive), although the low DDR of way continued according to more manufacturers they certify his modules of DDR PC2100, and Intel does all the possible from promoting his famous and polemic Pentium 4, which presently only uses RDRAM.
One hopes that the prices should keep on descending for several months, although the analysts are not not great less fortune tellers: in May, 2000 they were waiting for a big memory scarcity for these dates, for a "sure and enormous demand of components" that in the reality has been an out-standing sales descent...
