To install a microprocessor

On having bought a computer, one of the most habitual errors is to grant excessive importance to his brain, the microprocessor. To obtain a good yield not only a rapid mike is needed, but also a suitable quantity of memory RAM, a good graphic card, etc... or we can finish with the equivalent of an engine of Ferrari installed in the bodywork of a Seat 600, and in addition with a deposit of 5 liters of fuel.

Any way be already rapid or slow, the microprocessor is an essential element of the PC (on the other hand, there are human beings who manage well without scarcely using his brain...). 1. Identify the type of microprocessor that he needs.
2. Extinguish and disconnect completely the team...
3. If there is already an installed mike, remove it.
4. Connect the new mike, paying attention to his orientation.

7. Form the motherboard for the new microprocessor.

1. - Identify the type of microprocessor that he needs. This is almost immediate in case of mounting a new PC, but not so much if it is a question of an update.

The principal information source in this respect is the motherboard. He will need to know:

• The type of (socket) socket or groove (slot) in that it owes "to prick itself" the mike. The most habitual are:
   - Socket 7: for mikes guy Pentium, Pentium MMX, AMD K6, K6-2 and K6-III, Cyrix...
   - Socket 370 PPGA: for mikes Celeron of up to 533 MHz and some Cyrix and ROUTE.
   - Socket 370 FC-PGA: for mikes Pentium III and Celeron of more than 533 MHz.
   - Socket A (462)): for the current AMD Athlon and Duron.
   - Socket 423: for the Pentium 4.
   - Slot A: for the first mikes AMD Athlon.
   - Slot 1: for mikes Pentium II, some Pentium III and some Celeron.

• The electrical characteristics and of configuration of the mike:
   - the external voltage (I/O) who needs (generally 3,3 V);
   - the internal voltage (core) who needs (it will be minor or just as that of I/O);
   - his multiplier (4x, 4,5x, 5x...) and his bus speed (66, 100, 133... MHz).
  
  For example, a 933 MHz Pentium III uses a bus ("Federal Security Service" or "external speed or of badge") of 133 MHz, a multiplier 7x (933=7x133) and generally voltages of 3,3 V (day pupil) and 1,7 V (intern).

In modern basic badges it is probable that everything is formed automatically, but the more know that the better it him will go. And eye to the updates: often the motherboard will not offer the speed of bus or the voltage that the new mike needs, other times it will have to update earlier the BIOS...
